President Šoltes in Vienna INTOSAI Symposium

As General Secretariat of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), the Austrian Court of Audit has launched an initiative on the audit of tsunami relief funds. This initiative has met strong international support. It is aimed at pooling the capacities of government audit at an international level so as to assist the victims struck by the tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean and the donor countries as well as international organisations in the sound management of relief funds and use of aids for their earmarked purpose.

The Austrian Court of Audit - together with the President of the Austrian National Council dr. Andreas Kohl – hosted an "International Symposium on Strengthening Global Government Audit: The Contribution of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), as illustrated by the Audit of Tsunami Relief Funds" which is to promote government audit, and in particular the global activity of INTOSAI, using the audit of tsunami relief funds as an example.

President of the Austrian Court of Audit dr. Josef Moser invited president Šoltes to participate in this Symposium. The full-day event took place on 20 June 2006 in the building of the Austrian Parliament in Vienna and was attended by numerous participants from over 15 countries. The openning words were also presented by David Walker, comptroller general from the United States of America.

Speakers presented various topics, such as the cooperation between the United Nations and INTOSAI, support of the INTOSA in the Audit of Tsunami Relief Funds and others.
