This year, the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) Finland celebrates its 200th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, a webinar Celebrating 200 Years of the National Audit Office of Finland: Past, Present, and Beyond was organised on 22 May 2025. The discussion reflected on the long history of the SAI Finland, facilitated exchange of experience and enhanced prospects for the future challenges and opportunities in the field of international cooperation among supreme audit institutions. On behalf of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, mag. Aleksej Šinigoj, Second Deputy President, participated in the webinar.
The webinar was opened by Auditor General Sami Yläoutinen who emphasized the importance of independence of supreme audit institutions especially in times of increasing economic insecurity. Furthermore, the event addressed developmental milestones of SAI Finland, the role of the institution in the field of environmental auditing and its participation in the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA).
The keynote speaker was Tuija Brax, former Finnish Minister of Justice and current Director of the Rule of Law Centre, who emphasised robust auditing practices are essential to the rule of law, helping to build public trust, supporting democratic governance, and creating a stable environment where citizens feel secure to invest in their future.
