Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Poland organised a high-level conference on the security of EU countries from the perspective of SAIs, which took place on 3 June 2025 in Warsaw. The event was held in the context of the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU.
The conference brought together leaders of European SAIs and heads of international organisations. The participants discussed key security threats to the EU, such as cyberattacks, geopolitical tensions, hybrid warfare, and the vulnerability of critical infrastructure. The event also aimed to explore opportunities for developing joint SAI initiatives to enhance security within the EU.
Ensuring the security and stability of individual countries is not the task of a single entity, but a collective effort requiring expertise and close cooperation. That is why over 100 delegates from 30 countries gathered at the headquarters of SAI Poland in Warsaw to discuss the role of SAIs at a time when Poland and the EU are facing serious challenges due to a complex geopolitical environment. Using Poland as an example, the conference highlighted the crucial role of SAIs in auditing all areas involving public funds and state assets, ensuring that institutions function efficiently, effectively and in accordance with their mandates. This also includes defence and broader security areas, such as economic, energy and cyber security.
Among the participants were heads of SAIs from EU member states and candidate countries, including the President of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, Jana Ahčin, and Advisor to the President and Head of IT Service Dr Tomaž Kralj. High-level representatives from INTERPOL, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), and the International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) also took part. The event facilitated in-depth discussions, as only through dialogue, cooperation and exchange of experiences can defence be strengthened, challenges identified, and effective solutions for the future be developed.
