President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin attended the annual meeting of OECD Auditors Alliance which took place on 20 March 2025. The Auditors Alliance brings together public sector auditors from the entire world and aims to promote sharing of knowledge and best practice, as well as to strengthen international cooperation at all levels of public sector, ranging from local to international level.
This year, the meeting was online and focused on two main topics. The first session thus addressed the question of how auditors can better prepare for and respond to emergency situations – whether financial, environmental or geopolitical. Among guest speakers were Charles Deguara, Auditor General from SAI Malta, Karen Hogan, Auditor General from SAI Canada, and Markus Erlmoser, Chief Audit Executive at the Austrian Ministry of Finance, who emphasised the importance of audit resilience, risk anticipation, adaptive auditing, and collaboration in high-pressure situations.
The second session examined how to enhance cooperation between internal and external audit and explored ways to reduce duplication of work and to add greater value to audit activity. Personal experience on the concerned issue was shared by Hamilton Caputo, Chief of Staff from SAI Brazil, Heli Iirola, Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Finance, and Kim Jong-kwan, Director of the International Cooperation Division from SAI Republic of Korea.
The event, which was participated also by Boštjan Novak, Advisor in the Cabinet of the President, among others underlined the role of international networking in enhancing audit capacities and of efficient control in a rapidly changing world.
