President of the Court of Audit and Auditor General of SAI Malta pointed out the importance of sharing experience

At the invitation of the Auditor General of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Malta, Charles Deguara, the President of the Court of Audit, Jana Ahčin, paid a formal visit to the SAI Malta with the aim to deepen cooperation in the field of auditing and to exchange the professional experience and good practice.

The visit, which took place on 2 and 3 April 2025, also saw the participation of the Maltese Deputy Auditor General, Noel Camilleri, and two Assistant Auditors General, Keith Mercieca (Special Audits and Investigations Section) and William Peplow (Performance Audit Section), who outlined the framework for carrying out risk assessment when developing an annual audit programme and presented their experience with auditing the sustainable development goals. The latter was addressed also by the Liaison Officer for International Affairs, dr. Rebecca Vassallo. Moreover, the cooperation with INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) was also brought up for discussion by the Maltese colleagues.

The President of the Slovenian Court of Audit presented to all gathered counterparts the tasks of the SAI Slovenia, its achievements and the outlined strategic guidelines for the institution's future operations. Mr Boštjan Novak, Advisor in the Cabinet of the President, then took the floor and focused on the approach used when drawing up an Annual report that is based on monitoring the performance indicators and the application of modern communication approaches to audit work. However, both speakers addressed the need to consider the use of state-of-the-art digital tools and the Court of Audit's future plans regarding their use, including artificial intelligence, as support to audit work.

The meeting was held in the spirit of cooperation agreement which both Supreme Audit Institutions concluded in 2018 and which additionally strengthened the already successful partnership. Both sides clearly expressed their willingness to additionally reinforce their cooperation and to continue with a mutual exchange of expertise in the future.
