Meeting of the Network on Fiscal Policy Audit of the Contact Committee

At the meeting of the Network on Fiscal Policy Audit of the Contact Committee, which was hosted by Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Germany between 14 and 15 September 2023, the representatives of various SAIs discussed about three topical subjects, namely about control over the national fiscal rules and European fiscal rule, about fiscal measures in emerging situations (Covid-19 pandemic, energy crisis) and about fiscal measures for the transition to a climate-neutral economy. The meeting was attended by around 40 auditors from different SAIs, also from the Court of Audit.

The representative of the Centre for European Economic Research of the University of Mannheim in his speech presented preconditions for efficient fiscal rules and the proposed reform of the European fiscal rules. Also, some audits form different SAIs were presented, related to compliance with the national fiscal objectives in the field of national debt, auditing the measures set by governments during the energy crisis and measures referred to climate-neutral economy. Particularly, the developments in the field of European and national fiscal rules is the topic, which according to the participants should be paid attention also in future. Participants agreed that it would be reasonable to undertake a joint or parallel audit in the concerned field.
