Court of Audit winning the INTOSAI WGEA Award 2021 for the best environmental audit visualisation

Within the formal closure of this year’s INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) Assembly, the INTOSAI WGEA Award for the best visualisation in an environmental audit was presented for the first time. We are extremely proud and honoured that Slovenian SAI received first prize, namely for the best visualisation of an audit report Efficiency of long-term drinking water resources conservation. SAI Slovenia is along with SAI Indonesia the first to be granted this award, which is the result of our vision and close cooperation among the members of the whole team.

On behalf of the Court of Audit the INTOSAI WGEA Award – Inspiration in Environmental Auditing was accepted by dr. Miroslav Kranjc, Supreme State Auditor, and dr. Dijana M. Zupanc, Head of the Cabinet of the President, who in their acceptance speeches both emphasised the long-standing aim of the Court of Audit to present the findings from its audit reports in the most clear and understandable manner to the widest public. Upon the issue of the audit report Efficiency of long-term drinking water resources conservation the accompanying infographic and the short video were released, the latter including the President's announcement of the then new audit of effectiveness of reducing nitrate concentration in waters. By such means and by using other similar graphic elements we were able to establish additional connection between the two already interconnected audits.

The selection of this year’s topic shows that INTOSAI WGEA recognised an ever-growing awareness of the importance of visualisation for the most efficient presentation of audit findings. The Court of Audit has been for quite some time using and producing various visualisation types and techniques which have become part of its approach applied not only to environmental but also to other audits, as well as an indispensable tool for efficient communication with different stakeholders.

The awards is a significant acknowledgement of our work at the international level, where the Court of Audit has been recognised as one of the most incisive, visionary and innovative Supreme Audit Institutions. Additionally, the award gives us considerable encouragement to pursue the set objectives also in our future operations.
