The Working Group operates under the auspices of the Contact Committee and consists of 15 EU member states and the observers of the European Court of Auditors.
The topic of the joint audit is 'Cost of Controls' and as such an interesting topic at any time for any audit institution. But in the time of a very specific economic situation, public finances have become even more important. Perhaps even the most important tool for further development of the societies in general and European Union too, Dr Šoltes stressed as the first speaker.

It is therefore even more important that Supreme Audit Institutions play the role of supervisors and make sure the intentions of the states and EU become reality in the best possible way. Furthermore the funds of all EU member states should serve the purpose they are dedicated to in the most efficient, effective and economical way.

Participants during the Plenary Session
The Working Group has been working on this project for almost a year and its members already have a good knowledge of how the controls of EU spending procedures function.
President Dr Šoltes stressed he believes their findings will help each EU member state to be even more responsible and proactive in finding a way out of the economic crisis.
The meeting will be held in Ljubljana Monday 1 to Wednesday 3 February 2010.
