On 3 March 2026, annual conference of authorities competent for supervising operations and financing of political parties and political foundations at the EU level took place in Brussels.
The conference brought together representatives of supervisory and regulatory bodies from the EU member states and of the EU institutions, including the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, which was represented by mag. Maša Železnik, Deputy Supreme State Auditor.
The focus of this year’s conference was on the presentation of the new Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations which was adopted in November 2025. The new Regulation replaces the former legal framework and introduces improved solutions as regards transparent financing and supervision over the use of funds and imposes stricter requirements referring to reporting, financial transparency and control over the EU funds spending.
At the same time, the conference was a venue for discussion about the challenges accompanying the implementation of the new regulatory framework, it offered an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among national supervisory bodies and to exchange best practice.
