Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia organised second expert meeting of majors in Ljubljana on 25 January 2019. Majors attending the meeting were addressed by the President of the Court of Audit, Tomaž Vesel, who used the opportunity to congratulate the newly elected majors assuming the responsibility to work to the benefit of all citizens.
He pointed out key public finance challenges to be expected in the coming year. The Court of Audit shall closely monitor the implementation of rules on adequate absorption of funds and other aspects of financing municipalities. Among the key issues the following still remain: managing commercial services and setting prices, forming public-private partnerships, allocating surplus and efficiency of managing public institutes. Second Deputy President of the Court of Audit, Mojca Planinšek, explained risks related to public-private partnership.
President Vesel paid special attention to the need that municipalities provide for consistent revenue outturn regardless of the relatively positive economic situation.
