The President of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia Jana Ahčin accepted the invitation of the Auditor General of Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of North Macedonia, Maksim Acevski, and attended a trilateral meeting of SAIs of North Macedonia, Malta and Slovenia that took place from 17 to 19 September 2025.
During the visit, the President of SAI Slovenia, Jana Ahčin, together with Auditor General of SAI North Macedonia, Maksim Acevski, his Deputy President, Orhan Ademi, and Auditor General of SAI Malta, Charles Deguara, met with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi.
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr Afrim Gashi, welcomed the meeting with the representatives of one of the most important institutions that offers an opportunity to exchange experience with delegations from other countries, such as Malta and Slovenia. The participants of the meeting at the Assembly emphasised the importance of independence of supreme audit institutions and agreed that it is necessary to further strengthen cooperation with the legislative branch of power, since both the Assembly and the supreme audit institutions are responsible for the welfare of citizens.
The participants of the trilateral meeting discussed different aspects of SAIs’ operations, the main focus being SAIs’ independence, high-quality audits and efficient communication with key stakeholders. The discussion brought to the forefront the importance of contributing to positive changes of the society and also addressed the drawing up of the annual report, the meaning of added value, visualisation of audit findings and communication strategy, whereby it is necessary to consider the implementation of the principle INTOSAI P-12 which sets out the value and benefits of supreme audit institutions, namely making a difference to the lives of citizens through their operations.
At the end of the meeting, the participants provided incentives for future cooperation with the three heads of SAIs expressing their readiness to enhance the exchange of experience and knowledge as well as joint fulfilment of objectives pertaining to strengthening of transparency, responsibility and public trust in the work of audit institutions. The Slovenian Court of Audit is already familiar with such cooperation and has thus valuable experience since it concluded a memorandum on cooperation with both SAI North Macedonia and SAI Malta. The meeting under the organisation of SAI North Macedonia was not only a confirmation of an excellent professional cooperation but was also a symbol of friendship, mutual trust and a common vision for the future.
