President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin attended a jubilee conference upon the 30th anniversary of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) Croatia held in Zagreb on 21 November 2024. The event brought together high representatives of Croatian national authorities, academic society, international organisations as well as heads and representatives of supreme audit institutions from several countries.
President Jana Ahčin addressed the assembly and congratulated the Auditor General Ivan Klešić and his colleagues for three decades of their devoted work. In her speech she highlighted the historic meaning of establishing of the two institutions after gaining their independence and stressed that Croatian State Audit Act from 1993 gave foundations for the development of modern audit institution that is respected at national as well as international level. She said: »Your institution is among key pillars of public finance control in Croatia that contributes toward raising auditing standards and strengthening responsibility in the public sector.«
President of the Court of Audit pointed out the importance of the cooperation between the institutions and international networking within the organisations such as INTOSAI and EUROSAI. She shed light on the current discussions referred to digitalisation of audit procedures, agile real-time audits and use of the modern IT tools. Although the digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence bring about many opportunities, they may pose important questions about ethics and risks that must be addressed today. »International cooperation is of key importance when trying to access the best practice and to develop high standards of audit work« believes the President.
The Court of Audit and SAI Croatia shall remain committed to common objectives of strengthening their responsibility, transparency and professionalism in the field of public finance.
