Presentation of the European Court of Auditors' Annual reports concerning the 2023 financial year

Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) mag. Jorg Kristijan Petrovič met President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin on Monday, 11 November 2024, at the court's headquarters in Ljubljana to present the ECA 2023 Annual reports concerning the general budget of the EU and the European development funds.

Mag. Petrovič expressed readiness to present also other reports of the ECA addressing results of audit work. ECA Member mag. Petrovič and the President Ahčin highlighted the importance of the cooperation between the institutions, whereby mag. Petrovič stressed that this year the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia had been invited to cooperate in the peer review of the ECA showing the ECA's high level of trust and recognition of the professional capacities of the Court of Audit. The meeting was attended by Supreme State Auditors Helena Jenko, mag. Nataša Karlić Kovačič and mag. Aleksej Šinigoj, as well as by the Secretary of the Court of Audit Tadeja Pušnar.

The annual reports of the European Court of Auditors presented the statement of assurance as to the reliability of the accounts and the legality and regularity of the underlying transactions. The ECA also audited Recovery and Resilience Facility and issued a separate opinion on the legality and regularity of the concerned expenditure. The documents include the ECA's key findings related to income and main expenditure areas of the EU budget and European development funds as well as findings referred to budgetary and financial management.

In 2023, EU payments totalled € 239.2 billion: € 191.2 billion spending from the EU budget and additional € 48.0 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The ECA provided two separate opinions on the legality and regularity of expenditure: one on the EU budget and one on the RRF.
