EUROSAI WEGA meeting on Climate change adaptation and mitigation policies as a challenge for agriculture

Between 7 and 8 May 2025, the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Poland, acting as the chair of the EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA), hosted the Spring Session in Warsaw entitled Climate change adaptation and mitigation policies as a challenge for agriculture. The hybrid event brought together more than 80 participants from 38 SAIs, including the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA).

EUROSAI WGEA meeting on Climate change adaptation and mitigation policies as a challenge for agriculture, Warsaw, May 2025.

Agriculture is among the most climate-sensitive sectors due to its reliance on outdoor production. The impacts of climate change are evident in rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events, such as droughts, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, strong winds, frost, and others. During the meeting, SAI representatives presented audits already conducted in the area of climate change and agriculture. The presentations focused, among other things, on emission reduction in the agricultural sector and the implementation of measures for adapting agriculture to current and future climate change.

Two workshops addressed the challenges faced by SAIs when auditing climate change issues related to agriculture and water quality. These provided a platform for participants to share experiences. In this context, the Court of Audit also presented its own audits. Furthermore, its representatives participated in the EUROSAI WGEA Governing Board Meeting.
