The international conference titled Towards More Transparent, Equitable and Efficient Budgets: Global and Local Perspectives in Gender Equality Auditing was held in Belgrade, Serbia, on 27 May 2025. At the conference, jointly organised by the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations Agency for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia participated as one of the presenting institutions.
The opening addresses were delivered, among others, by Marija Obrenović, Acting President and Auditor General of the SAI Serbia, Ljupka Mihajlovska, Special Advisor to the Minister without for gender equality, and Jorgovanka Tabaković, Governor of the National Bank of Serbia. Following the introductory presentations, two panels were held - Advancing Gender Equality in Audits: The Role of INTOSAI and SAIs – Challenges and Lessons Learned and Gendering Audits and the Importance of Regional Parallel Audits in the Western Balkans: Insights, Action Plans and Institutional Impact.
Supreme Audit Institutions play a key role in promoting gender equality through monitoring, analysis and evaluation of how public funds are planned and used. Audits that include a gender perspective contribute to a more equitable distribution of resources, identify and address gender inequalities in budget programs, and strengthen the accountability of public institutions.
Recognizing the importance of the Slovenian Court of Audit’s work on advancing gender equality, Secretary of the Court Tadeja Pušnar participated in the panel Advancing Gender Equality in Auditing: The Role of INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) and Supreme Audit Institutions – Challenges and Lessons Learned, where she shared Slovenian experiences in promoting gender equality and the role of the Court of Audit.
