Audit Compendium on response to COVID-19 pandemic

This year’s edition of the Audit Compendium, which was drawn up by the European Court of Auditors (ECA) in cooperation with the European Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI), addresses the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is behind one of the most disruptive health crises the world has ever seen, with a major impact on society, economies and individuals everywhere. The supreme audit institutions of the EU member states (EU SAIs) and the ECA reacted promptly to the current crisis and have quickly undertaken many audit and monitoring activities. In addition to the 48 audit activities completed in 2020, more than 200 other audit activities are still ongoing or planned.

The Compendium provides information on the impact of and the response to the pandemic at national and EU level, and gives an overview of the pertinent audit work carried out and reported on by 11 EU SAIs in 2020. The Compendium contains summaries of 17 reports published in 2020, which cover five priority areas: public health, digitalisation, socio-economic response, public finances and risks, and the general response at different levels of governance. It draws on the results of audits carried out by the SAIs of Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and the ECA.

In March 2021, the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia issued the audit report Efficiency of purchasing protective and medical equipment for controlling the spread of SARS-CoV-2, there is also an ongoing audit with the objective to express an opinion on the regularity of the payment of bonuses for serious risk and particular pressure during COVID-19 epidemic.

The Audit Compendium on response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been translated into the 23 EU official languages, including the Slovenian language, and is available on the ECA website.
