CBC and EUROSAI SG2 Thematic Workshop

Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) of Slovak Republic and Poland organised the first thematic workshop on peer review fieldwork which was held on 29 and 30 June 2026 in Warsaw. The workshop was organised as part of cooperation between the INTOSAI CBC (Capacity Building Committee) Subcommittee on Peer Reviews and the EUROSAI Strategic Goal 2 (SG2) directed towards institutional capacity development.

On behalf of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, the workshop was attended by mag. Katja Božič, Advisor to the President of the Court of Audit.

The purpose of the workshop was to enhance capacities of peer reviewers and to provide supreme audit institutions with practical knowledge required for the implementation of peer reviews in accordance with the INTOSAI GUID 1900 Peer Review Guidelines. The event brought together experts from many supreme audit institutions, having the opportunity to exchange experience and discuss best practice and challenges in peer review fieldwork.

The participants of the workshop addressed the purpose and characteristics of peer reviews with the emphasis on fieldwork, methodology of implementing peer review and practical challenges that accompany this form of cooperative learning among supreme audit institutions.

One of the key findings from the workshop is the realisation that peer review in not a mere methodological tool but it is mostly a collaborative process of learning based on mutual trust, cooperation, open dialogue and exchange of knowledge and experience. Essential elements necessary for successful implementation of peer review are good preparation, clearly defined expectations, high-quality evidence, open dialogue and preparedness of all participating partners for continuous improvement.
