President of the Court of Audit among the speakers at the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption symposium Integrity in relation to legality and legitimacy

On 30 September 2022, the President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin attended the symposium organised by the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption: Integrity in relation to legality and legitimacy. Among the speakers who presented their points of view also the President of the Court of Audit discussed her attitude towards legality and legitimacy.

The opening speeches were given by the main speaker President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, President of the National Assembly, mag. Urška Klakočar Zupančič, and Minister of Justice, dr. Dominika Švarc Pipan. Issues of facing the challenges of strengthening and promoting the integrity within their profession were presented by honorary professor dr. Albin Igličar, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina, Information Commissioner Mojca Prelesnik, President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin, President of the Slovenian Directors’ Association Gorazd Podbevšek, former Minister of Justice mag. Lilijana Kozlovič and President of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption dr. Robert Šumi.

The participants came to a joint conclusion that we already have all means at our disposal to make integrity the standard at all levels of the society. But in order to reach the objective, everybody should contribute. A special responsibility is laid upon the holders of public offices who should promote high level of integrity by setting examples. Rule of law, integrity and transparent operations in the society should be strengthened more efficiently, thus there are possibilities that the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption could be transformed into an institution for strengthening the integrity and transparency.

Participants in the symposium highlighted the importance of strengthening the integrity at the political level, as well as regarding legislation, public sector, economy, educational system and society as a whole. The President of the Court of Audit explored an issue what we can do to strengthen the awareness related to the importance of the integrity and what we can do to make it the standard at the holders of public offices as well as in the operations of institutions. The Court of Audit as a supreme audit institution and the highest authority for supervising state accounts, the state budget and all public spending holds a special responsibility thereof. She also stressed that by involving our joint activities we need to raise the awareness of all public funds users and for the benefit of everybody we need to manage public funds efficiently and economically.
