President Vesel at the 5th Public Sector Academy

President of the Court of Audit, Tomaž Vesel, responded to the invitation of the Advisory and Training Centre of the Faculty of Public Administration that on 20 March 2019 organised expert meeting Working conditions in public administration and quality of public servants.

The discussions and presentations focused on topics which touched upon working conditions in public administration, quality of work performed by public servants and various types of economic (positive) shocks affecting public servants (salaries, bonuses). Speakers at the event paid special attention to the issues: what are the experience with public administration of different actors, among which economic sector was put forward, and how to link up policies, public administration, companies and citizens into a unified system for better public administration.

President Vesel in a debate with counterparts stressed that public sector needs to find a way of rewarding the efficiency of public servants in fair relation to inefficient performance. He expressed a concern about salaries of auditors who carry out extremely demanding and responsible work, since they are watching over public money. Nevertheless, due to uncompetitive salaries of public sector auditors compared to economic sector it is difficult for the Court of Audit to motivate and retain its employees.
