Prior to the Contact Committee meeting of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the EU member states and of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), a working meeting of the Liaison Officers for International Affairs organised by SAI Belgium took place between 14 and 15 February 2024 in Brussels. Within active network of professional contacts, Liaison Officers are responsible for coordinating the planning of the ECA audits in the member states, for coordinating activities of the working groups dealing with certain audit topics and for the exchange of general information on a regular basis.
Senior President of SAI Belgium, Hilde François, pointed out in her opening speech that this meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on questions of joint interest and to strengthen the SAIs' commitment to excellence and mutual cooperation.
The purpose of the meeting was among others to closely examine and discuss the activities of the Contact Committee, whereby Liaison Officers exchanged reports and considered possible further steps. Special attention was given to establishing the framework for cooperation within the Contact Committee itself. This part of the meeting was attended also by the representatives of candidate countries and potential candidate countries of the EU, including the representatives of the joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as the SIGMA representatives. Additionally, the meeting addressed future events in the years 2024 and 2025, as well as touched upon potential new initiatives and forms of future cooperation.
