Study visit of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption of North Macedonia at the Slovenian Commission for the Prevention of Corruption

The Slovenian Commission for the Prevention of Corruption hosted a two-day study visit of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption of North Macedonia on 10 and 11 September 2026. At the event, there were also the representatives of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, dr. Peter Premrl, Advisor to First Deputy President, and mag. Maša Železnik, Deputy Supreme State Auditor.

Dr. Peter Premrl presented mechanisms of cooperation and the exchange of information between the Court of Audit and other authorised bodies. The focus was on the exchange of audit findings and information about suspected irregularities and cooperation with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, the Police and other institutions. He also highlighted the path of information from the received initiative to reviewing detected risk and carrying out the audit, informing the authorised bodies about findings and receiving feedback on undertaken procedures. Special attention was given to cooperation with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. In 2025, it handed over to the Court of Audit 59 initiatives to implement an audit, thereby being the largest single institutional source of such initiatives.

Mag. Maša Železnik presented the arrangement and practice of auditing political parties in Slovenia. The presentation focused on legal bases and methods of financing political parties, as well as on the approach of the Court of Audit towards audit implementation. The audits are directed at reviewing regularity of political parties’ operations and, among others, include reviews of their revenue and expenditure as well as changes in their assets and loans. Mag. Železnik pointed out most common audit findings and measures of the Court of Audit, among them demands to carry out corrective measures, recommendations to improve their operations and commencement of offence proceedings.
