Practical training of moderators on IT Self-Assessment and IT Audit Self-Assessment

EUROSAI Information Technology Working Group (ITWG) organised practical training for moderators of self-assessment procedures, namely on the issue of IT Self-Assessment (ITSA) and IT Audit Self-Assessment (ITASA), which took place on 10 September 2026 in Budapest and was hosted by Supreme Audit Institutions of Malta and Estonia. On behalf of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Blas, Principal Auditor, participated in the training.

ITSA and ITASA are self-assessment methods to be used by Supreme Audit Institutions. However, ITSA enables assessments of how efficiently information technology supports organisations’ operations and key processes, while ITASA focuses on the assessment of organisations’ level of development and capacity to implement IT audits.

In both cases, moderators play important role since they direct and guide the participating institution through the structured self-assessment process, encourage discussions and assist in detecting and addressing gaps between the current and the desired level, as well as in developing measures for improvements.

The training was practice-oriented and thus included simulated examples. Therefore, the participants from Supreme Audit Institutions of Hungry, Estonia, Slovak Republic, Poland, Malta, Netherlands, Kosovo, Serbia, Romania, Switzerland and Slovenia had the opportunity to share experience and best practice and to exchange approaches of SAIs when implementing IT audits and therefor developed IT tools.
