Newly appointed President of the Commission for Public Finance Control mag. Alenka Bratušek invited management of the Court of Audit to an introductory meeting. The meeting was attended by the President of the Court of Audit Jana Ahčin and her Deputy Presidents mag. Maja Bilbija and mag. Aleksej Šinigoj. They were joined also by the Secretary of the Commission for Public Finance Control Sandi Šavli. The purpose of the introductory meeting was to get acquainted with the management and to establish terms for future cooperation. Alenka Bratušek believes that the Court of Audit is an important body whose role is crucial for the operations of the Commission as well as for the supervision over public spending.
The Commission for Public Finance Control supervises implementation of State budget and financial plans and regularity of financial statements of public funds, public utilities, and key public institutions, established by the Republic of Slovenia, namely Pension and Disability Institute of Slovenia, Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia and Radio Television Slovenia. It reviews legality, designated purpose, cost-effectiveness of the public funds use whereby it draws upon the audit reports of the Court of Audit. Additionally, the Commission monitors the implementation of the local governments’ budgets who receive fiscal equalization funds.
The Commission for Public Finance Control regularly reports about its supervisory activities to the National Assembly and proposes measures to improve legality and efficiency of the public funds use.
At the meeting, the management of the Court of Audit presented its work history and its cooperation with the Commission in the past. Finally, they reached an agreement on future cooperation, since they both consider cooperation of supervisory bodies to be of utmost importance and should be strengthened in future.
