Expert visit by delegation from North Macedonia

On 26 November 2025, the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia hosted a delegation of representatives from the Republic of North Macedonia, namely of the Secretariat-General of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of North Macedonia, the State Statistical Office of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of North Macedonia and UNDP North Macedonia. This study visit to Slovenia was arranged with the aim to present the Slovenian system for monitoring the implementation of the Slovenian Development Strategy 2030 and to exchange best practice regarding the establishment of efficient mechanisms for monitoring national development strategies.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Slovenian Court of Audit Jana Ahčin emphasised that the efforts made by the institutions of North Macedonia to develop an efficient system for monitoring the implementation of their National Development Strategy 2024–2044 are of utmost importance. Mrs Ahčin also expressed satisfaction that the Court of Audit can contribute to these endeavours by presenting its best practice.

In the continuation of the meeting, the Secretary of the Court of Audit Tadeja Pušnar presented to all gathered the powers and operations, as well as the importance of independence and autonomy of the Court of Audit. Additionally, Mr Luka Ramovš, head of audit department B5, explained the process of carrying out performance audits of the operations of the users of public funds, including the role of auditors in monitoring the implementation of the Agenda 2030.

The session initiated a discussion addressing several questions mostly pertaining to the field of coordinated budget and strategic planning, as well as to inter-institutional cooperation. Rosica Salevic Hristovska, Assistant Auditor General at SAI North Macedonia, pointed out several similarities between SAI North Macedonia and SAI Slovenia, expressing pleasure at their excellent mutual cooperation. Furthermore, she shared experiences gained by SAI North Macedonia and presented its operations.

Such expert visits offer an excellent opportunity for a detailed exchange of knowledge and strengthening cooperation among institutions, thereby significantly contributing to promoting good governance and efficient public spending.
