Successful practical cooperation between both SAIs, starting with the visit of the representatives of the National Audit Office Malta (NAO Malta) in May 2019 at our institution, continued in July 2019 with the visit of our representative at the SAI Malta headquarters in Floriana.
The representative of the Court of Audit presented to the Maltese colleagues the field of local self-government in Slovenia, powers and responsibilities of the Court of Audit in auditing local self-government, as well as best practices in local self-government system audits. Part of the meeting was also the visit to the ministry responsible for local self-government which offered an opportunity for the exchange of views on the issue of European Charter of Local Self-Government implementation and on the advantages and disadvantages of establishing minimum standards that have to be provided by local communities. The visit enabled an insight into specific work processes contributing to the use of most efficient methods for the operations of the SAI.
The Court of Audit plans to continue with bilateral secondments involving other SAIs, since such cooperation and exchange of practical experience bring considerable benefit to all participants.
